September 2008—Record-Breaking Month!

Dear AFM Family,

I just want to take a moment to brag on God and you!

Let me begin by telling you that we had a total of 571,782 orders this month, exceeding any previous AFM distribution record. I know that having a record-breaking month in orders also means a record-breaking effort by all of our volunteers and participants! Thank you for doing a stellar job and helping us meet the ever-increasing national demands for food relief.

NYC—A Trip to Remember

Recently, I had the honor of being in New York City at a banquet for Angel Food Ministries. It was exciting to see pastors and community leaders catch the vision for Angel Food, a vision that my parents began almost 15 years ago. That vision still stands strong and is one not only helping people with their monthly food costs, but most importantly it is still reaching out to the lost and hurting with the good news of Jesus Christ. I am proud to report that the state of New York is growing strong when it comes to Angel Food and I am thrilled to be headed back for another banquet in the next few weeks.

Honoring Our Heroes, Heritage and Future Generations

Last month, with the anniversary of the terrorism that occurred Sept. 11, 2001, I began thinking about how many folks have made sacrifices throughout American history to secure and protect our precious liberty here in the United States.

Brave men and women paid the ultimate sacrifice during that attack upon our nation, and brave men and women still do today. As in years past, our soldiers and patriots put their lives on the line every day to ensure that America remains “The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave."

That kind of indomitable spirit of love for God and country has defined us from our very beginnings. This remarkable courage and commitment was clearly demonstrated as the signers of the Declaration of Independence hammered out the document that laid the foundation for future generations.

Volunteer Spotlight

Mom Curry

“There’s Mom Curry. She’s the Angel Food lady."
That’s what residents of Hainesport and Mt. Holly, N.J., say when they see Hilda Curry. This special woman has dedicated her life to helping others. For 25 years she and her husband, Robert, operated a group home for teenage boys. They retired in May 2008, but throughout their years of service (for which they were recently honored), they have helped raise more than 75 boys. In fact, it was while she was feeding four hungry teenagers that she discovered Angel Food Ministries.

“Go God!”

How do you distinguish between a God idea and merely a good idea? For Lucy Hunter and the volunteers of the Missions for Camden host site in Camden County, Georgia, the answer is easy. It's when-from start to finish-you can witness God's hand of provision, when He brings together the right people and builds the right foundation all at the right time.
Starting an AFM host site may seem like a large undertaking, but if God's in it, details fall into place. "This was a God-size task, and God delivered," Lucy said. "We say, 'Go God!' He has helped us solve problems before we could even figure out what we needed to do."
